Hostilities 04:41
new york, new zealand new orleans, new mexico they're all old news to me i'm beginning to feel a little bit hostile i make my way about the day with a puncher's chance and a gritty smile but i could still see the pain in your eyes when i told you that i gotta leave and you missed the flight i think i'm really freakin out fried like an egg i make my way across your breakfast plate a bitter black cup of coffee with sugar free sweetener if you want oat milk with that then you can fuck right off i'm getting the picture i'm a little bit bad for you just like that milk you're trying so so hard to avoid i think i'm really freakin out oh dear, i'm really freakin out you have this special way of making things okay when all the pieces start to fall. you have this special way of saying so much without saying nothing at all. you have this special way about you i just can't get out of my head oh my god i loathe you like i loathe monday mornings after a pleasant weekend vacationing in the south of france with you making love and empty promises in our downtown apartment complex thinking about all the things that would be so so nice... yet here i find myself... slightly freakin out oh dear, i'm really freakin out you said that next year we'll be in thailand on the beaches suntanned so what's all this talk about next year? next year next year next year well, i'll be in the same place waiting for your sweet face to come back on a golden platter from pluto if that's even a fuckin planet anymore my head is losing it bit by bit keep talking about next year next year next year next year well, sweetheart sugarplum, sugar honey iced tea, my precious little bumblebee, things don't always work out the way we thought i guess well, i'll still think about a time and a place where we can push our gorgeous daughter on the swing my angel wings, my sweetest sweetest thing i think i've finally freaked out

Ceasefire 03:20
can i get a ceasefire please? i'm choking on the chowder of expired unease when there's no guarantees that anything will change they'll throw it in your face they'll shove it down your gullet i'm sick and tired of drinking government wine beside closed doors it's a perfect design defined by some fucked up group of fucked up individuals that don't give a fuck about your mom your dad your love your dog your job your boss you're sad you're lost you're scared you're gone you're mad you're tossed you're fried you're posh you've tried you've flossed you're thrown out you're caught you've lied you've fought you've scratched you've clawed you're trapped you're sprawled you're strapped you fall it's on it's off it's on it's off again and again and again and again and again can i get a ceasefire please? i'm choking on the chowder and i'm starting to wheeze bricks and bones may break my phone but the message is always the same spewing bullshit outta their mouth it's all an intricate plan to put your head down south your muse is gone, your friends withdrawn you're washed up you're fucked up you're outta touch you're outta time you're outta nickels you're outta dimes you've done the crime you've served the time you're outta chances you've got no spine you moved to france left me behind now i'm confined to sleep around in this stranger town i'm shaken down, you're breakin down but what i found is when i'm on the ground i can finally see so fucking clearly now i beg, i bleed can i get a ceasefire, please?

about

After releasing nearly one-hundred songs in their first two years as a band, Lovely Company returns with their first new music in almost two years since with the announcement of their double single “Hostilities” and “Ceasefire” out October 6th, 2023 via Easy Freaker Records.

As a product of the pandemic, Lovely Company formed primarily as a recording band in their moldy Vancouver basement, exchanging experimental ideas and often completing full songs in a single day. When the restrictions were lifted, their focus shifted to putting together a setlist from their vast catalog for live performances which would usually pull songs from several different projects.

While restructuring their ethos from a recording band to a live band neglected some time in the studio, they continued to write songs including the forthcoming double single of “Hostilities” and “Ceasefire” which see the group trending in a completely different direction.

“Hostilities” is a bleak attestment recited in angry spoken word by an unreliable narrator. With fringe, charismatic guitar lines and a driving rhythm section into the bold and brash culmination of the track, “Hostilities” demonstrates their cohesiveness after playing it live for so long leading up to the recording.

“Ceasefire” enters as an explosive b-side that sees the band explore punk elements more than any of their previous releases. While the vocals deliver in a similar spoken word fashion, the guitars interweave between danceable funk and screeching chaos. Disorderly and bizarre in nature, “Ceasefire” invites those who feel they do not belong.

Despite Lovely Company’s brief absence from the recording sphere, their offering of “Hostilities” and “Ceasefire,” available October 6th via boutique Vancouver label Easy Freaker Records, will prove well worth the wait and a sign of more music to come.
