Yes, I like the thought of you undercovers in the morning dew, but like cherry blossoms after spring - after spring - will you leave me? Will you leave me like the salt leaves the sea? Like the wind through the trees? Will you leave me?

Come with me down to a small cafe where we'll sit and waste the day away - waste the day away - or maybe it's not a waste anyways. Come with me! Let's take a train to Spain where we'll drink and dance the night away in San Sebastian. The sun also rises. The sun also rises, until it don't, until it won't, until I won't.

My baby She's getting better She's swimming in my sweater Here lies another love letter Here lies another love letter To show you I'm a go-getter Now go and get her But you won't Be caught dead With a sucka like me Unless you wanna be happy And I won't Be caught dead With a chica like you Unless I had a clue My baby She's spent some time away Haven't stopped to count the days I'm sure it's just another phase Another phase And I know It's been too damn long Since I seen your eyes Blueberry pies I miss Your honey yellow skies And our ankles tied Make love divine

Daydreams 05:24
What was I before my life? And when's my father going to die? Things that keep me up at night, and things I keep for me inside, me inside, for me inside, me inside, inside this dream. This dream.

Advice 04:25
Some days I feel like the fall stuck in spring and all my leaves are stuck with green// You should have left me to season's fate and let my leaves red and fade// Now I'm here so sadly sailing around the world// and I still haven't decided which way the wind's going to whirl// and I thought I might ask you if you had some advice or should I think twice// Should I think twice? Should I think twice?// Some days wash away all my fears; all my hopes; all my heartbreak.

about

Lovely Company’s debut EP, Leaning Into the Afternoon (2020), infuses birdsong guitar melodies with warm vocal harmonies to instill a portrait of springtime daydreams dampened with petrichoral melancholy. Drawing musical influence from indie alternative-bred artists Kevin Morby, Loving, and Wilco, the six-song project captures a spring afternoon’s oscillative disposition to explore the constant struggle to embrace life’s unyielding transformations and accept the temporal nature of being.

All proceeds from this EP will be donated to the East Oakland Collective (EOC), a member-based community organizing group invested in serving the communities of deep East Oakland by working towards racial and economic equity.

Written and recorded between July 2019 — May 2020

Produced, engineered, and mixed by Lovely Company on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, in the Dunbar and Riley Park neighbourhoods of Vancouver, British Columbia.
